Kübra AYTEKİN-USKUN & Osman ÇİL

pp. 25 - 45   |  DOI: 10.29329/tayjournal.2018.483.02

Abstract

In this quantitative research, elementary school and mathematics teachers’ opinions and recommendations about Realistic Mathematics Education approach were investigated. Participants consists of 13 elementary school and 14 mathematics teachers who determined by criterion sampling technique among the purposeful sampling methods. The phenomenology approach and qualitative analysis techniques were adapted in this study. Elementary school and mathematics teachers mentioned their desire to get in-service training for Realistic Mathematics Education approach and emphasized the importance of developing prepared materials and textbooks for this approach. Elementary school and mathematics teachers frequently mentioned that giving lectures with the Realistic Mathematics Education approach may take too much time. Researchers who considered elementary school and mathematics teachers’ concern for the density of the curriculum emphasized creation of a study that reviews the 2018 Mathematics Curriculum and secondary education placement exam via Realistic Mathematics Education approach

Reading Performance Indicators Are Poor Let’s Make Them

Birsen DOĞAN

pp. 46 - 62   |  DOI: 10.29329/tayjournal.2018.483.03

Abstract

Reading habit, which is one of the most fundamental qualifications, a child needs to acquire to succeed in life. Because, individuals having reading habits make contribution to society as well as their lives. Those individuals improve themselves more and also are open to new innovations. the individuals who improve themselves in terms of cognitive, social, and affective make more contribution to development of society’s economic, social, and cultural life. However, considering the circumstances in Turkey, it would be contended that level of students’ reading skills and habits are at the low level. In order to solve these problems, it needs to be conducted projects related to reading. In that regard, a project entitled “Let’s take a step: Lets read, share and disseminate” has been prepared and funded by the TUBITAK under grant 1001. In this project, it has been aimed to train preservice teachers regarding literature circles and also help elementary school students to acquire reading habits and positive reading attitudes through the trained pre-service teachers. The activities related to literature circles have been planned and have been implementing during the projects. This article aimed to introduce this project and the activities in the project. The current project introduced in this article would provide new insights into developing new similar and extended projects to improve both children’s reading habits in the short-term future in Turkey and to make contribution to development of society in the long-term future. In addition, it is expected that this article would provide new perspectives for researchers and help new ideas appear to solve existing problems

Bilgisayar ve Öğretim Teknolojileri Öğretmen Adaylarının İnanç Sistemleri, Performans Göstergeleri ve Öğretim Uygulamaları: Bir Çoklu Durum Çalışması

Nuh YAVUZALP & Eralp BAHÇİVAN

pp. 63 - 79   |  DOI: 10.29329/tayjournal.2018.483.04

Abstract

pp. 80 - 93   |  DOI: 10.29329/tayjournal.2018.483.05

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the animations, developed on socio-emotional strategies that the teachers of gifted/talented pupils’/students can use to solve various problem situations that they may encounter, in terms of several variables. These variables are in terms of teachers; perceived learning, usability and participation contexts. In this context, 8 learning objects were developed in animation format. Four of these learning objects were developed for pre-school teachers and the remaining four for primary school teachers. These learning objects were examined by 90 pre-school and primary school teachers. Afterwards, teachers' opinions were obtained by using the "Learning Object Assessment Scale" developed by Gürer and Yıldırım 2014 . The scale used in the study consists of three parts; perceived learning, usability and participation. When the data obtained from the study are examined, it is seen that teachers' appreciation towards animations is high in usability, participation and perceived learning sub dimensions. When sub-dimensions were examined in terms of branches, pre-school teachers' appreciation for animations was found to be higher but it did not cause any significant difference between the branches. When the sub-dimensions were examined in terms of the study year variance, it was observed that the averages between the groups were close to each other and there was no meaningful difference between them

Ülkühan EFE

pp. 94 - 116   |  DOI: 10.29329/tayjournal.2018.483.06

Abstract

Despite the fact that it is a fun environment to start with, today research shows that films can be used as a teaching tool. Films with various genres are among the most up to date resources available in social studies classes. In this context, teachers can use films to motivate students in teaching specific subjects. In this research, a measurement tool was developed that can be used in determining the perceptions of about the use of films in social studies teaching. The draft scale form consisting of a total of 70 items has been reviewed and corrected by language experts in order to correct sentence errors and expression errors. The scope and the validity of the structure are examined in the content of the validity study of the measuring tool. In the scope of coverage, opinions of field experts were obtained in determining whether the numbers and qualifications of the items on the scale were sufficient. The necessary arrangements were made in line with the opinions and recommendations of field experts and the 70 items on the scale were reduced to 38 items. 38 items prepared for the scale were applied to 168 social studies teachers. Analyzes were made on 160 scales that were completely filled out of the scales. Prior to the statistical analysis, the reliability of the test items was examined using the t-test and item total correlations for the significance of the differences between the item mean scores of the lower 27% and upper 27% groups, which were formed by Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin KMO and Barlett Tests . As a result of the factor analysis, the variance ratios and the slope accumulation graphs are examined and it is seen that the scale factor is the three factor. Confirmatory factor analysis was then carried out and it was concluded that the models of the scales were appropriate according to the confirmatory factor analysis results. Internal consistency coefficient Cronbach Alpha of the scale was calculated as .85. As a result of the research, it is determined that this scale, which is called " The Perception Scale for the Use of Films in the Teaching of Social Studies ", is a valid and reliable tool
