Abstract
The concept of citizenship changes according to the perceptions of people. Some of the concepts of citizenship that change according to these perceptions are active citizen, passive citizen and traditional citizen. In modern world, with becoming more widespread using the Internet, social media citizenship has also been added to the concept of citizenship. The use of social media is more prevalent especially among young people who are studying at university. This research aims to examine the perceptions of citizenship and social media citizenship of university students according to various variables. The study group is a total 564 students of the Faculty of Education. Survey model was used in this research. 'The Perceptions of Social Media Citizenship Scale' and 'The Perceptions of Citizenship Scale' developed by Utku 2015 were used as the data collection tool for this research. As a result of research, it has been revealed that men are more interested in social media than women. Also there was a significant difference between the perceptions of students who don't follow any periodicals and who follow periodicals. There was no significant difference between the groups according to income level variable in terms of social media citizenship. It has been proposed to raise awareness among the youth about the use of social media
